What are the risks of facial stem cell injections?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Is stem cell facial treatments legit or a scam? I am planning to do stem cell facial rejuvenation at a local medical spa. They extract adipose-derived stem cells from the mini-liposuction of my abdomen, process them somehow, and then inject them into facial wrinkles and areas of volume loss.
They are promising natural regeneration without fillers or surgery. They claim that the result will last more than years. They also say it improves skin texture and elasticity from the inside out. These claims sound amazing but skeptical. What science supports these claims? What results are realistic versus marketing hype? Are there any risks specific to facial injections of stem cells? How do I know if they are processing cells appropriately? What credentials should I look for in the provider?
Please help me.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Stem cell facials are largely marketing hype, with limited scientific evidence supporting claims that adipose-derived stem cells reliably regenerate skin or provide results lasting more than years. While stem cells may help stimulate collagen production, outcomes are unpredictable and the procedure is not FDA-approved. Risks include infection, uneven results, or unintended tissue growth. Ensure the provider is a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon using properly processed, sterile cells to reduce risks.

I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
