Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What are the symptoms of a stomach ulcer? Can someone have a stomach ulcer? What causes each sign, and what can be done about it? What should you do if you suspect you have a stomach ulcer? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Your main problem is regarding peptic ulcer. Peptic ulcers can be benign or malignant. Usually, most ulcer is benign. Excess stress, smoking, hyperacidity, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, etc. are some causes. In stomach ulcers, mucosa erodes and hyper-secretion of acid; hence, abdominal pain can be the primary symptom. Sometimes, bleeding in stool is also present. An antacid is used for peptic ulcers like Omeprazole, and an antihistaminic drug, like Famotidine, for four weeks. If there is no improvement, we must rule out the infection that can lead to an ulcer. In complex cases, we need to investigate with endoscopy examination. In peptic ulcer, avoid excess spicy food, avoid gastric irritants like smoking, stress, nonveg diet, extra tea, coffee, etc.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards.
