Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

There is a set of long, thin horizontal creases going along my lower to middle back. Some of them are tiny, while one is so long that it nearly stretches across my entire back. They are like little red bruises since they do not feel like anything. I have no pain and they seem purely visual.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and understood your concern.

It seems you have striae distensae or stretch marks. Stretch marks either result from excessive stretching of the skin or from hormonal imbalances like raised serum cortisol. A number of treatments are available with varying success. But before starting treatment other causes of striae should be ruled out such as stopping the intake of exogenous anabolic steroids if an individual is using them. Some of the suggested treatment methods include:

1. CO2 laser (carbon dioxide laser): This will give you skin tightening over the affected area.

2. YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) laser and ER (erbium-doped) glass lasers: These are skin-tightening lasers.

3. Derma roller and PRP (platelet-rich plasma): This is a non-laser procedure with platelet-rich plasma injected in the stretch mark to induce skin tightening.

All of these treatments have varying success rates ranging from no improvement to 50 percent improvement. I suggest you visit a specialist and consult.

I hope this helps.

Thanks and regards.
