Will derma rollers help me get rid of stretch marks?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am desperate to rid myself of stretch marks on my hips, inner thighs, and chest. I currently use bio-oil but want to try something more effective. I have done a lot of research on derma rollers, and I would like to use one, but I do not want to cause further damage or infection to my skin. What is the best derma roller to use? How many needles are safest?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Stretch marks result from excessive stretching of the skin. So, I recommend you reduce weight by at least 15 to 17 lbs. Once stretch marks appear, they are hard to treat, but several treatments are available with varying success and include:

  1. CO2 laser (carbon dioxide laser): This will give you skin tightening over the affected area, but again get treated for visible parts only and not the entire body as it will be expensive.

  2. Nonablative Nd: YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) laser and ER (erbium-doped) glass lasers are skin-tightening lasers.

  3. Dermaroller (540 Titanium Alloy Needles, 0.5 mm depth) and PRP (platelet-rich plasma): This is a non-laser procedure with platelet-rich plasma injected in the stretch mark to induce skin tightening.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
