How to comfort a baby after a fall?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My five-month-old baby fell from the bed. He cried for a few minutes but is now active. There is a very slight swelling on the lower back side of his head, just above the neck. What should I do? Could this cause any serious issues?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Based on the information provided, after the fall, he cried for a short time and then returned to normal. In this case, you can monitor him closely.

It is not clear from the information how long ago the incident occurred.

Observe him for a total of 24 hours. If he remains active, feeds well, does not vomit, and the swelling does not increase within this period, there is generally no cause for concern.

However, if you notice any increase in swelling, excessive crying, vomiting, unusual drowsiness, refusal to feed, or any abnormal body movements, you should take him to the emergency room immediately.

I hope this information helps you.

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
