How to prevent gum recession caused due to tongue piercing?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had my tongue pierced for eight months. I went to the dentist and they said that the rubbing of the tongue ring on my teeth had caused gum recession, so I was advised to remove my tongue ring. I have read that using a Bioflex tongue bar does not cause any damage to your teeth. Is this true? If not, could you give me any alternative to not remove my tongue ring?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern regarding your dental health. Bioflex tongue bars can be used to prevent damage to the teeth in case of tongue piercing. It is beneficial and gives good results for a temporary period. So, for long-term results and to avoid more damage to the gums and teeth, you should follow your dentist's advice.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
