What are the signs of preterm labor in a twin pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 27 weeks pregnant with twins. I have symptoms like menstrual pain, pain in the vagina that make me difficult to sit or stand properly. My belly is becoming hard, and I have back pain. All these symptoms come and go. As twin pregnancy is a high risk of preterm labor I am afraid as I have read that this all might be a sign of preterm labor.

Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I would kindly request you to share your latest sonography reports. Yes, twin pregnancy is indeed a high-risk pregnancy and there are chances of complications arising, especially when you are approaching your third trimester. Because the belly size increases and the weight you are carrying increases, you will likely experience back pain and stiffness. Try to rest as much as possible (at least two hours after lunchtime and eight hours of sleep at night). Are you experiencing constipation? This could also be making your belly hard. I am also hoping that you are taking your iron and calcium supplements as prescribed by the doctor. Kindly follow up with the requested details so that I can help you with medicines for your symptoms.

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
