Can CGM improve outcomes in poorly controlled type 1 diabetes?

Hello doctor,

I am writing on behalf of my younger brother, who has type 1 diabetes and just turned 29 last month. He was diagnosed at 14 and has been on Insulin injections his whole life, but his control has been really inconsistent.

His last HbA1c came back at 9.8, which scared our whole family. His endocrinologist mentioned a CGM device as an option, but he keeps dismissing it, saying it's too expensive and uncomfortable. He had two severe hypoglycemic episodes this year, one where he passed out at work.

Will a CGM device genuinely help a T1D loved one live much longer at 29 with such poor current control, or is it just a fancy gadget? Our family is really worried about long-term complications like kidney and eye damage, and he's already showing early signs of these issues.
