Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a lot of pain in my gums, and there is food impaction too. I have gaps between my teeth, and my oral hygiene is not very good. I have heard about periodontal disease, but I do not know if that is what is causing the gaps and pain.
I am also diabetic, specifically type 2 diabetes. Does that make the gum pain worse? Could diabetes complications affect the gums? I am struggling with oral care, and I think my teeth might be affected due to the lack of hygiene. Can you tell me if it is diabetes or just bad hygiene? How do I manage it? Also, what happens to the gums if I leave them like this?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
You cannot leave the gingiva or gums untreated. Deep dental scaling is required, and I would recommend some safe nonsurgical remedies for home implementation as well. Without these, you cannot hope to stop the continuous gum recession or the tooth loss sequelae that will be initiated in a short time span. Post-food impaction might further lead to periodontal disease.
I would like to know:
Your HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) levels.
When did you get your scaling done last time?
So based on this, I will be giving you a detailed insight and a complete prescription or list of prophylactic remedies for gums, because type 2 DM (diabetes mellitus) definitely has a bad impact. Let me know these details.
I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again.
Thank you.
