Which foods can improve weight in a 3-year-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a mother of a three-year-old boy. My son is underweight and I wanted to include protein in his diet. He is not taking any non-vegetarian food except eggs. He does not eat the yolk. What should I do? Are there any other healthy foods you can suggest and how important is taking eggs every day? Can everyone include eggs in their diet I mean even the elders who have cholesterol can also take it. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. It's great that you are looking to ensure a healthy diet for your son. For a protein boost, you can include foods like dairy products (milk, yogurt, and cheese), legumes (beans, and lentils), nuts, and seeds in his diet. For eggs, even without the yolk, the egg whites provide a good source of protein. As for cholesterol concerns, many health experts consider eggs to be a nutritious part of a balanced diet, including for adults. The cholesterol in eggs does not have the same impact on blood cholesterol levels for most people as was once thought. However, it is suggested for individuals with specific health conditions, like high cholesterol, to consult with their healthcare provider regarding their dietary choices. Incorporating a variety of protein sources and maintaining a balanced diet is key for overall health.

I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
