Patient's Query

Hello doctor.

I have blood and urine tests scheduled for tomorrow, but I am on the fifth day of my menstruation. It is nearly over, but will it have any effect on the outcome? Should I give urine or should I not? Color, pH, sediment, glucose, proteins, specific gravity, urobilinogen, and ketones are all factors that I think have to be examined in urine.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If there is no further bleeding, you can take a urine sample. Blood and urine tests are typically safe to take during your period, especially if it is toward the end and not extremely heavy. Regarding the urine tests, this is how your period could alter some of the parameters:

  1. Color and sedimentation: Because blood in the urine might impact this, your healthcare professional may consider this when interpreting the results.

  2. Proteins, glucose, specific gravity, urobilinogen, and ketones: The findings of these factors should not be considerably influenced by your period.

Make sure to inform your medical professional that you are on your period and if you have any concerns.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
