Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a query regarding my mother. She is 44 years old and has been experiencing urine leakage. It occurs when she walks, stands, sits, or even sleeps. It is not that she is unable to control her urine; she can, but it leaks involuntarily. I would greatly appreciate any help or guidance regarding this issue, as I am the only one supporting her. It would mean so much if we could resolve this and see her free from this condition. Her blood group is O-positive. Please assist us.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to our portal.
I read your query and understand your concern.
I am sorry to hear about your mother’s condition.
Before I can prescribe any medication or suggest a treatment, we need to identify the underlying cause of this issue, as it can have multiple origins.
Could you please provide the following details?
How long has she been experiencing this problem?
Is she diabetic or hypertensive?
Has she undergone any surgeries in the past?
How many Caesarean sections or normal deliveries has she had?
Does she still have periods, or has menopause set in?
Does she leak urine when she coughs, sneezes, or laughs?
Does she experience a fever or any back pain?
Has she tried any medications? If so, please share the names.
Has she undergone any scans or had a physical examination by a doctor?
Additionally, some women experience a condition called pelvic organ prolapse, where the uterus or bladder may bulge out of the vagina, causing similar symptoms. Could you check with her if she has noticed any bulging in that area?
If she has not had any recent tests, I recommend the following:
Ultrasound of the abdomen.
Uroflowmetry with PVRU(post-void residual urine)
Kidney function test.
Please get back to me with these details, and I will do my best to assist you.
I hope that you get your answer.
Please let me know if you want some help.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
For approximately three years now, my mother has been experiencing this issue. No, she is not diabetic and has not had any surgeries in the past. She had one normal delivery when she was 26 years old. Yes, she still has her periods. The leakage also occurs when she coughs or sneezes. She has not experienced any fever or back pain. I am sorry, but I do not remember the name of the medication she used when this issue began. Until now, she has not undergone any physical examination by a doctor, and she has mentioned that there is no bulging out of her vagina.
Could you please guide me on her diet, including:
What should she eat and what should she avoid?
What precautions does she need to take?
Additionally, could you provide guidance on the abdominal ultrasound process?
Thank you so much for your help. I will wait for your response and do my best to assist her.
Hello,
Welcome back to our portal.
From what I gather, she seems to be suffering from a condition called stress urinary incontinence.
You should get the tests I mentioned earlier done. An ultrasound can be performed at any nearby clinic or hospital. You can show them this chat along with the scan details I provided.
Regarding food, she can eat whatever she wants, as there are no specific dietary restrictions.
Some precautions she can take include emptying her bladder every two hours, regardless of whether it feels full or not.
Limit her fluid intake to a maximum of two liters a day.
She should have no more than two cups of tea or coffee daily.
There is also a medication she can try (although I do not believe it will provide much relief, it is still worth a shot):
Tablet Mirago 50 mg, 1-0-0(once a day) (before food) for 10 days.
Please get the tests done and let me know the details, so we can proceed with a proper treatment plan.
Thank you.
