Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I want to ask about something that has been bothering me. Whenever my husband and I have sex, I feel wet at first, but during intercourse, I suddenly become very dry. It becomes painful, and I also notice slight swelling around my clitoris.
It started with just itching and discharge. I have treated it a few times, but the symptoms return. Could this be related to the recurring infection, or is something else causing this?
Please guide.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concerns.
It sounds like you may be dealing with a recurrent vaginal infection, most likely a yeast (fungal) infection. However, it could also be bacterial or a mixed type of infection.
When infections keep coming back, they can disrupt the natural vaginal pH and lubrication. This could explain why you feel wet initially during intercourse but then quickly become dry, which leads to pain and irritation around the clitoris. Frequent treatments without identifying the exact cause can sometimes worsen this cycle.
Treatment and next steps:
Get a vaginal swab and culture to confirm whether the infection is fungal, bacterial, or mixed.
Follow the correct treatment based on the test results (antifungal or antibiotic as needed).
Avoid using harsh soaps, scented products, or vaginal washes.
Wear breathable, cotton underwear and keep the area dry.
Use a gentle, water-based lubricant during intercourse to reduce friction and discomfort.
Consider probiotics (oral or vaginal) to help restore healthy vaginal flora.
If your husband has any symptoms, he may also need treatment to prevent reinfection.
If symptoms continue after treatment, further evaluation may be needed to rule out hormonal imbalance, dermatitis, or vulvodynia.
Let me know if you would like help with the following steps after you get your test results.
I hope this answers your query. Feel free to reach out anytime.
Thank you.
