Vigabatrin

Vigabatrin is a medication primarily prescribed to treat epilepsy by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter GABA in the brain. Vigabatrin increases the inhibitory effects of GABA by inhibiting the enzyme that breaks down GABA, which reduces excessive neuronal firing and prevents seizures. Complex partial seizures and infantile spasms are two types of seizures for which this medication works exceptionally well. However, its use may result in undesirable side effects, such as visual issues, making routine monitoring crucial during therapy.
