Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I want to find out the possible cause of the sores on my vulva and itching. While I was on my period, I noticed my vulva started itching, and after my periods finished, I noticed an unpleasant odor from my vagina. Now, I have noticed my vulva looking red, and it is still itching. I am wondering what could be the cause.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
There could be several possible causes of the sores and itching on your vulva. Here are a few possibilities:
1. Vulvitis: This is an inflammation of the vulva, which can cause redness, itching, and soreness. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including irritation from soaps, detergents, tight clothing, yeast infections, or bacterial infections.
2. Vaginal infection: As you mentioned, you noticed an unpleasant odor after your period. This could be a sign of a vaginal infection, such as bacterial vaginosis (BV) or a yeast infection. These infections can cause itching, burning, and discharge.
3. Sexually transmitted infections (STIs): If you have had sexual contact with a partner, you may have contracted an STI, such as herpes, chlamydia, or genital warts. These infections can cause sores, itching, and discharge.
4. Allergic reactions: Some women may be allergic to certain products, such as soaps, detergents, or lubricants, which can cause itching and redness.
I hope this has helped you.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Regards.
