What causes white spots on penis?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a young male, and I have noticed a weird white spot on my penis. It does not hurt and is only a visual concern. I have had it for at least two to three months now. After checking the internet, I cannot seem to find what it is, and I really want to know whether it is something I should worry about.
Kindly help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq, and thank you for choosing us as your provider for health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. From the image provided (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), it appears to me that you have something called lichen planus. It is an autoimmune disorder that causes scarring with inflammation of the affected areas. Please do not be worried; it can be effectively managed with medications that reduce the symptoms. Please help me with a few details so that I can understand what is going on:
- Are you diabetic or hypertensive?
- Have you ever had any surgeries in the past?
- Do you have any difficulty pulling back the foreskin?
- Do you have any trouble with your erections?
- Do you have any trouble passing urine?
- Do you have any white spots in your oral cavity or in other areas of your penis?
Please revert back with the details, and I will do my best to assist you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Here are my answers:
- No, I am not diabetic or hypertensive.
- Yes, I have had one relatively serious surgery on my arm where I was under full anesthesia.
- No difficulty in pulling back the foreskin.
- No trouble with erections.
- Regarding passing urine, the only difference I have felt is that sometimes the 'pressure' is lower. In simpler words, I have to wait longer until the urine comes out.
- No, I have not noticed any other white spots.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Based on what I see, I think this could be lichen planus, which is an autoimmune inflammatory condition. This is not contagious, so please do not worry about that. I suggest you to use a steroid cream for ten days and revert back to me. If you do not see any benefit, then I would recommend another more potent ointment.
Based on your location, you may need a prescription from your local general practitioner for Beclomethasone plus Neomycin ointment for local application twice a day for ten days. I suggest you get a uroflowmetry test at the urologist's office to see how well you are urinating and if you need any medication for that. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
You can always come back and reach me at icliniq.com.
Thank you for consulting me.
