Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had my wisdom teeth extracted three weeks ago, and today it started profusely bleeding. The blood was chunky with bits. I have had it covered with gauze for the past 8 hours, but still, blood is coming out.

Thank you

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

Could you please send a picture of the affected area soon? Secondly, did you experience any delayed healing in the extraction site or bleeding or foul smell from the mouth at any time during these three weeks?

What I can conclude from your given details is that, it did not heal properly maybe, and felt just okay for you to chew from that side, but actually, it was still in a healing state from inside.

Kindly send me the x-ray taken before extraction, I guess it was a surgical extraction and requires at least a month to heal really well.

  1. For now, keep the area tight with cotton balls pressed on, and from the outside mouth, keep an ice pack.

  2. Kindly do not talk or chew till the bleeding stops, just keep pressing the cotton gauge piece and keep your mouth closed well.

  3. As soon as your bleeding stops rush to your dentist and show the condition of the extraction site. Your dentist will clean and irrigate the area and will repack or suture it for some time.

  4. Kindly follow all the guidelines and keep the area clean for better results.

  5. Do not rush into healing fast, it should heal for good.

  6. Do not chew from that side till your dentist examines and confirms proper healing.

  7. Complete the full medicine course and avoid any habits you have, like smoking at least till your problem is fixed.

  8. Maintain good oral hygiene and rinse your mouth with warm water and salt two to three times a day.

I hope my answer was helpful to you. Do revert back with the photograph of the same after the bleeding stops. Kindly post updates about the same.

Thank you for consulting me.
