Introduction:

Chromotherapy is a color-based way of treating diseases. According to this theory, any illness can be attributed to a deficiency in a specific color in the human system, and the imbalance can be corrected by exposing the body to a particular color of light. Instead of the coarse, irritating vibrations of medicines and chemicals, mending by colors uses nature's subtlest and finest vibrations.

What Are the Various Colors Used in Chromotherapy?

The two extremes of color are blue and red, with yellow as the middle ground. The three primary colors of a rainbow are present, along with the other four: violet, indigo, green, and orange. Nature has created a system for curing illness in the colors of the spectrum, which has excellent therapeutic value.

What Are the Effects of Different Colors?

Following are some examples of how different colors interact with the body and have therapeutic properties:

Red: The color red is stimulating, profoundly penetrating, and energizing. It is a symbol of heat, fire, and anger. It warms cold limbs by stimulating arterial blood flow. Red activates the nervous system and particularly impacts the sympathetic nervous system. This has advantages for conditions such as low blood pressure, bronchial asthma (breathing difficulties), rheumatism (muscle, joint, or tissue inflammation and pain), paralysis, and anemia (low blood hemoglobin levels). The upper chest should be covered in red color for bronchitis (inflammation of airways). This color works well in inactivity and sexual weakness and should be used over the womb, spine, and sexual organs if insufficient menstrual flow exists.

Orange: A color of success and confidence. Orange helps boost the nervous system's energy and blood flow. It helps with the therapy of appendicitis (inflamed appendix), kidney and gallbladder stones, hernia (an abnormal passage of tissue or an organ through the wall of the cavity in which it usually resides, such as the bowel), epilepsy, bronchitis, colds, constipation, and physical debility. It is also used to encourage the breasts' postpartum milk production.

Violet: Violet has a connection to the pineal gland, which is frequently connected to psychic and spiritual ability. Although it produces little heat, it produces noticeable effects. Of all the visible wavelengths, it has the weakest penetration. This hue is helpful in the treatment of skin conditions, rheumatoid arthritis, acute instances of consumption, insomnia (inability to sleep), tumors, and mental and nervous disorders.

Yellow: Symbolises happiness and gladness. Yellow has diuretic and laxative properties. The liver, heart, and brain are stimulated by it. Diabetes, indigestion, eczema (dry and irritated skin), renal and liver problems, constipation, eye and throat infections, and impotence can all be effectively treated.

Indigo: Also known as purple, blends the antiseptic blue with the blood-warming red. It is a great booster that does not irritate. It helps cure advanced phases of constipation, hydrocele (a form of swelling in the scrotum, the pouch of skin that houses the testicles) and leucorrhoea (a vaginal discharge that is dense, whitish, yellowish, or greenish), numerous stomach and womb disorders, cataracts, migraine, and skin conditions. The eyes, hearing, and nervous system are all calmed by it.

Green: It is a color of balance and is composed of the colors blue and yellow. It has a relaxing effect. It is beneficial in conditions like back problems, ulcers, influenza, liver conditions, malaria, colds, and sexually transmitted diseases. It improves and maintains vision. It is highly beneficial in treating inflammatory conditions due to its medicinal and depressive properties.

Blue: Blue reduces pain and bleeding, and speeds burn wound healing. Dysentery (severe diarrhea), measles (an infectious viral disease), insomnia, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), painful periods, asthma, respiratory infections, high blood pressure, and skin anomalies can be treated with it successfully. In an experiment conducted at a hospital in the United States, 25 staff members with normal blood pressure were exposed to blue light for 30 minutes. It resulted in a universal decrease in blood pressure. Upon activation of the red light, there was an observed elevation in blood pressure.

What Are the Techniques for Treatment With Chromotherapy?

There are two ways to cure diseases with color: (i) applying light through different colored glasses and (ii) using colored water internally or externally.

Glass sheets measuring 30 by 36 centimeters in the necessary colors are needed for the first technique. These are positioned at window frames or any other practical location so the sun's rays can travel through them and strike the patient's body directly. The color procedure typically lasts 30 minutes.

Colored bottles are required for the second technique. These bottles are cleaned and filled with new well water, distilled water, or rainwater until they are three-fourths full. The bottles should be corked and placed in direct sunshine for three to four hours. Due to this exposure, the water is believed to gain therapeutic properties, making it suitable for internal and external use.

What Are the Contraindications of Chromotherapy?

Chromotherapy can have some negative impacts that must be considered, even for the most ardent practitioners.

Most of them result from the improper use of colors in particular situations, which is thought to exacerbate the signs of some diseases. For instance, it is not advised to subject patients to red, pink, or orange tones if they have anxiety, stress, irritability, or palpitations. This is meant to exacerbate their problems, possibly to dangerous levels.

Contrarily, using hues like blue or purple is discouraged when treating illnesses like depression, rheumatism, gout, or colds. These cold colors are believed to exacerbate the situation by further paralyzing the body and mind.

The worst adverse effect of chromotherapy might be that it can prevent patients from seeking medical attention when they have a severe illness. This may endanger their lives and health and keep them from getting the necessary care.

Conclusion:

The best way to use chromotherapy is as a complementary therapy with other natural ways to maintain health, such as a healthy diet, enough rest, exercise, yoga asanas, etc. Chromotherapy can be used to treat minor illnesses at home before they progress to more severe conditions, but serious illnesses should never be treated by a layperson utilizing this technique. For such diseases, qualified medical professionals who are well-versed in color therapy must be contacted.
