Aspiration pneumonia is a condition when there is inflammation of the airway caused by breathing in food, saliva, liquids, or vomit into the lungs instead of swallowing into the stomach. Aspiration occurs in case of coma, paralysis, poor gag reflex, old age, difficulty in swallowing, etc. This leads to the development of chest pain, foul-smelling sputum, fever, fatigue, shortness of breath, confusion, etc. Treatment is done with the help of antibiotics and mechanical breathing methods.
