Medical Conditions - Atelectasis

In the case of atelectasis, the air in the lungs escapes into the space between the lungs and the chest wall leading to a partial or complete collapse of the lungs. Collapsed lungs are known as pneumothorax. The tiny air sacs may become deflated or get filled with alveolar fluids. The condition is often characterized by difficulty in breathing.
