These are also known as aphthous sores. These are small lesions of the soft tissues. These mainly develop at the base of the gingiva. These are round, painful sores which occur due to the presence of sodium lauryl sulphate in the toothpaste, any minor injury to the oral mucosa, any allergic response, hormonal changes, and stress.
