Medical Conditions - Chest Congestion

When there is inflammation of the lung bronchi due to an infection, they get swollen and secrete mucus that constricts the airflow, thereby causing difficulty breathing. Breathlessness is associated with chest tightness, fever, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, productive cough, etc. Prolonged chest congestion along with cough can be a sign of pneumonia. Chest congestion is the most common feature of COVID-19 infection. Antimicrobials, drinking plenty of fluids, a hot shower, steam inhalation, and bronchodilators can relieve the symptoms to some extent. While sleeping, the head can be placed at a raised position above the body's level for easy breathing.
