Cryosurgery, also called cryotherapy, uses extreme cold to destroy abnormal tissues in the body, such as tumors. It is used to treat cancers and precancerous lesions of the skin, and it is primarily used to treat prostate cancer. This surgery most often uses liquid nitrogen, although argon and carbon dioxide may also be used.
