The methods of preventing pregnancy after unprotected sex is known as emergency contraception. Emergency contraception can be achieved by using hormonal pills (emergency contraceptive pills) or copper-bearing intrauterine devices (IUD). They delay or inhibit ovulation, and should be used within 72 hours of unprotected sex.
