Hashimoto's disease also called Hashimoto's thyroiditis or chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis, is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the attack of the body's immune system on the thyroid gland. Symptoms show up slowly after years and include fatigue, drowsiness, muscle weakness, joint pain, menstrual irregularities, and thyroid swelling. It may be inherited or due to environmental factors such as stress, infection, or radiation exposure. Treatment includes thyroid hormone replacement therapy.
