Mean platelet volume is one of the components in complete blood count. A normal MPV ranges between 9 fl to 12 fl. High MPV indicates increased production of the platelets. An increase in MPV alone cannot lead to any diagnosis. They must be correlated with other components of complete blood count and other investigations for a definite diagnosis. MPV can be increased in heart diseases, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, hypertension, vitamin D deficiency, cancer, thrombocytopenic purpura, myeloproliferative diseases, etc. Low MPV indicates Crohn's disease, aplastic anemia, etc.
MPV Blood Test: Low, High, and Normal Range
