Medical Conditions - Nontuberculous Mycobacteria

Nontuberculous mycobacteria, also called environmental or atypical mycobacteria, is a mycobacterium that does not cause tuberculosis or leprosy. It is naturally found in water, soil, and dust. It affects those with already damaged lungs and weakened immunity. Symptoms of this lung infection include chronic mucus-producing cough, profound fatigue, night sweats, low-grade fever, and unexplained loss of appetite and weight. Treatment involves long-term antibiotics.
