Otosclerosis occurs due to abnormal bone growth in the middle ear resulting in hearing loss. There is an abnormal extension of bone in the middle ear cavity. The sound waves do not get amplified, and so there is hearing loss. Vertigo is seen in rare cases. Hearing aids or surgery can be done to help the bones to vibrate the sound waves.
