Rhabdomyoma, a benign tumor of striated muscle, is often caused due to tuberous sclerosis (a genetic disorder that causes tumors to form in different organs in the body). They are of two types, such as cardiac (tumor inside the heart) and extracardiac forms (tumor outside the heart). Extracardiac is further classified into adult type, fetal type, and genital type. They form a mass in the neck region. The other symptoms are difficulty in breathing and swallowing with hoarseness in the voice. A local incision is done, and open-heart surgery is done in cases of cardiac rhabdomyoma.
