Valve replacement is a surgical procedure done to change a damaged or non-functioning heart valve. The valve is replaced with an artificial valve or a bioprosthesis. The bioprosthesis might be obtained from a homograft or a xenograft, for example, from the pig. Aortic stenosis, mitral valve disease, etc., are the conditions where valve replacement is indicated.
