What treatment can improve my stage 4 lung cancer survival?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. When the patient has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, the survival depends on many factors. There are comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension, performance status, whether you are able to walk around and do the activities and the extent of metastasis detected on other scans, such as ultrasound abdomen and bone scan. In general, it is about 30 percent survival at the end of 2 years, but maybe even more than 50 percent if the above factors are positive. The cure is not possible, but the symptoms can be reduced with chemotherapy after the biopsy report comes.

Do multiple CT scans increase my risk for cancer?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. You do not need to worry about the radiation dose from regular computed tomography (CT) scans done to diagnose disease, as these have benefits beyond any potential or perceived detrimental effects of radiation. The acceptable limit for the general public's whole-body radiation dose is 5.0 mSv annually.

How do I manage my breast cancer and a new liver lesion?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. We need the opinion of a liver surgeon on whether surgery is possible for your tumor. A PET-CT (positron emission tomography and computed tomography) scan of the whole body is advisable to rule out metastasis. An opinion of the gastroenterologist is needed for the treatment of HCV (hepatitis C) infection.

My mother, 75, had a mastectomy. Is radiation therapy needed?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. According to your description, your mother has been diagnosed with cancer, stage T2, n1 (tumor 2, node 1), grade 3, ER/PR positive (estrogen and progesterone receptor testing), LVI and PNI (lymphovascular and perineural invasion) positive. She is 75 years old with cardiac comorbidity. I would suggest radiation therapy, but I would also like to know which side of the breast is affected. I would need to see the patient in person to decide her treatment plan.

When does saliva production recover post-radiation therapy?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I read your query and can understand your concern. From your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), I can make out you had oral cavity surgery followed by postoperative radiation therapy. In such a scenario, due to radiation therapy affecting your parotid salivary gland, there will be decreased taste, altered taste, and dry mouth (less saliva). Only partial recovery will happen and will take about six months.

Is a painful breast lump suggestive of breast cancer?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. As per your FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) reports (attachment removed to protect patient identity), the lesion looks suggestive of a breast abscess and not suggestive of breast cancer. But FNAC is not confirmatory. Your ultrasound report was not attached. You need a mammogram and an ultrasound.

Will PET scan show false positive lymph node after flu shot?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. Yes, it is quite possible that a flu shot could lead to inflammation of the nodes in the draining area of the shot. This could be detected on a PET-CT (positron emission tomography-computed tomography). In general, the SUVmax (standardised uptake value) of inflammation will be lower than that of cancer. If possible, the flu shot should be delayed.

What does a thyroid nodule on my chest MRI scan indicate?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. Thyroid nodules are incidental findings on most CT (computed tomography) and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans. In general, these nodules are evaluated if there are worrying features such as large size, blood vessel activity (vascularity), and texture variations. A 0.23 inch nodule would be too small to characterize.
