How to treat my mother’s sciatica-related leg pain?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. I am deeply concerned about your worries. Leg pain can be due to sciatica, which is pain caused by compression of the nerves in the lumbar spine, or other causes such as vascular disease. Understanding which of these is responsible for your mother's symptoms is essential before any treatment plan can be considered. To advise treatment, it is necessary to get a history of the onset of the pain, what makes it better or worse, are there any symptoms or signs of systemic illness such as weight loss or fever, or neurological deficits such as weakness or numbness? Each of these details helps narrow down the cause significantly and guides the next steps.

Is my thumb twitching a symptom of cervical disc herniation?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. A herniated disc in the neck can cause three potential problems: Injury and degeneration of the disc can cause neck pain that is not related to nerve problems, and this does not usually require surgery. If the disc and bone spurring that form for long-standing problems compress the spinal cord, there can be myelopathy or spinal cord dysfunction, which causes problems with walking and weakness of arms and legs. Based upon what you have told me, you do not have this yet. The nerves leave the spinal cord and exit to the right and left.

Is it safe to delay cervical radiculopathy treatment?

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com. The symptoms you describe could be consistent with a cervical disc problem, but are not specific to how severe it might be. Numbness of the face is usually associated with disc problems in the neck, although I have seen patients complain about it in the past. The physical examination of your nerve function is essential. If you had signs of spinal cord compression, increased reflexes in the legs, weakness, or difficulty controlling bowel or bladder function, then there is urgency in seeing a neurosurgeon.

What are the ways to manage a comatose patient?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. The neurologic findings that you described have caused permanent damage to the brain. Most stroke improvement will occur within six weeks to three months after the event. However, recovery for such patients who cannot communicate and function normally has been very rare.

Following cervical surgery, my thumb went completely numb. Why?

Hi, Welcome to icliniq.com. I understand your concern. Sometimes it can take time for radiculopathy to improve even up to a year. If your neurological function is getting worse then a repeat MRI would be advisable. If the symptoms are the same and your neurological examination is not worse then you can wait before repeating an MRI.
