Can sanded grout exposure cause some serious effects?

Hello doctor,

The query is about sanded grout exposure. I am quite concerned about my girlfriend’s exposure to silica dust. We were doing a home renovation. I left for about 1.5 hours while she was removing tile in a kitchen. When I had come back I saw she was removing grout with a grinder and no dust mask. The room was filled with dust in the air. The room is about 10x9 with 12” tiles. This makes for a total cut distance of 1100” with the grinder. Assuming a 1/8” cut with a depth of 3/8” and this works out to 51.56 cubic inches of dust released into the air. Assuming an average of 25 % silica content in the grout and weight of 1.36 oz per cu inch for the dust, that is about 17.50 oz of silica dust releases into the air. The room was open to adjacent rooms so I estimated about 118.42 cu yard space, which would work out to 0.33696 lb/ft^3 She was doing this for about an hour and a half so I estimate about 1.32 cu yard was inhaled. From what I have read this is really high-level exposure. Is my math wrong? Did I miss something? I am making her go to the doctor and we will monitor her health closely. I am really concerned this could lead to serious problems in the near future.

My aunt has pacemaker and gets swelling in her feet for the past few days. Is this due to cardiac medications?

Hi doctor,

My aunt is 89 years old. She has a pacemaker and chronic bronchitis. She is complaining of swelling on both feet with more swelling on the left foot. It gets better when she exerts herself less. She has anxiety due to this. Also, she has a lot of phlegm, especially at night, which makes her wake up. Meanwhile, due to the COVID-19 situation, she will not step outside of her house to see a doctor nor do blood works. Her current medications are Metolar 25 mg, Cardace 5mg, and Water pill 5 mg in the morning. And Cardace 5 mg, Telma 40 mg, Warfarin 5 mg, Aspirin 75 mg, Atorvastatin 10 mg, Nebulizer Duolin Respules, and Budecort in the evening. She would like to know what is causing the edema to her ankles? Is it any medicines? How to ease her phlegm problems?

What could be the reason for the various nodules in the lungs?

Hello doctor,

I have been having sharp, stabbing pain in the chest (they feel like pain related to nerves as I get them all over the chest, sometimes on both sides at the same time) as well as shortness of breath and a stuffy nose, phlegm or sputum, sometimes cough and wheezing. Sometimes, I feel pain when I breathe, it is very sharp and I have to hold my breath or take shallow breaths. I had a computerized tomography (CT) scan done, and the results showed: a five millimeter (mm) subpleural nodule in the right lower lobe, three millimeter subpleural nodule in the lateral right middle lobe, and three millimeter peripheral lung nodule in the lateral left lower lobe. There are a couple of tiny subpleural nodules in the lingula. No, interstitial thickening, bronchiectasis or significant air trapping. My question is, will these nodules produce these symptoms at this stage? Are they likely benign? Also, does lung cancer usually spread out like this, or does it usually start in one spot and turns into a mass? I vaped heavily for about seven years. Thank you.

Will stem cell therapy help in curing sarcoids in ILD patient?

Hello doctor,

My mother aged 64 is suffering from interstitial lung disease (ILD) for the past three years. Now the doctor suggested recently that she has developed nodules which are mostly sarcoids in nature. Recent computed tomography (CT) scan report shows it. Is there any way to revive her lungs condition? Is stem cell therapy effective for her? She is now on 24 hours of oxygen support with three liters capacity. Please help us.

What is the best line of treatment for recurrent TB lymph nodes?

Hello doctor,

Tuberculosis (TB) lymph node recurrence was detected for the second time after a gap of two years. I got one lymph node removed surgically. Gene X pt report confirmed positive, and bacteria show no resistance to Rifampicin. A culture test with a sensitivity test will take over two months. I need consultation for the best line of treatment. I was given standard anti tuberculosis therapy (ATT) medication given for an extended period of 2 years before three years. Symptoms like fever and pus discharge from the neck lymph node disappeared after the Rifampicin dose is increased two times the normal. I need guidance for the future course of action, medication, and one to one chat to understand and address the concerns.
