How to manage facial acne?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello Doctor,

I have been dealing with acne, but recently it has increased along with the appearance of more pimples. I am confused about which products to use. I am considering two face washes: The derma co salicylic acid face wash and the simple refreshing facial wash (a gentle cleanser with no active acne-fighting ingredients).

I am unsure which one would be better for my current skin condition.

Kindly guide me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Regarding your symptoms, I believe you may have developed persistent acne vulgaris, which could be resistant to treatment.

I suggest the following:

Simple, refreshing face wash every morning.

Tablet Minocycline (tetracycline class antibiotic) 500 mg, by mouth (PO), three times a day (TID) for 1 week.

Topical Resorcinol (antiseptic and keratolytic agent) 2%, once daily (QD), or Topical Tretinoin (retinoid class) 0.1%, twice daily (BID),

Azelaic acid (antibacterial and keratolytic agent) 20%, once daily (QD) , or

Dapsone gel (sulfone antibiotic) 5%, once daily (QD) , for 1 month.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
