Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a pimple that bursts by itself. When it burst, I thought it was best to get all the pus out by squeezing it. I managed to remove as much as I could, but some must have remained because it has since scabbed, with pus pouring out and hardening along with the scab itself. I have had acne since my teenage years. I have used Adapalene gel for the scab. What should I do with it? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

Firstly, you need to consult a dermatologist nearby to assess the grade and severity of acne. If acne is mild, topical anti-acne creams, like Clindamycin or Adapalene, will help. Anti-acne creams are started simultaneously with oral medications such as Azithromycin and Doxycycline, with or without isotretinoin, if the acne is severe. As a general treatment measure, I suggest:

  1. Use a face wash for oily skin like Cutiwash (Aqua, Cocamidopropyl betaine, Lactic acid) or a mild cleanser to wash your face.

  2. Apply Clindamycin gel in the morning and Adapalene gel at night over the acne lesions.

  3. Remove any whiteheads or blackheads if you have them.

  4. Avoid squeezing pimples as it will leave a mark.

Consult a specialist doctor, talk to them, and then take the medication. Follow these above measures for two weeks to see how much response you get. If the acne is of mild grade, then it will respond. However, oral medication will be needed if the condition is severe.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
