How to deal with persistent acne and skin issues?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 17 years old and male. I am concerned about my skin, and it is causing me insecurities. I have been dealing with frequent acne for years, but it has decreased in the last two months with the use of skincare products. However, I now have brown acne pigments on my cheeks. Dandruff has been persistent for three years, and in the last year, I have experienced occasional back acne and three acne spots on my shoulder. My chest occasionally turns red for a few minutes. Additionally, wounds sometimes form blood clots that turn black and remain.

Under stress, my body tends to itch, and four years ago, my thigh region near the testicles began peeling, leaving a red, discolored area that no longer sheds skin. I also experience dry skin peeling from my outer ear. I am seeking suggestions for a cure without prescription medications or hospital visits. Is it possible to achieve a complete cure within six months? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Oral medications are necessary for treating acne. I suggest the following:

  1. Take 100 mg of Doxycycline twice daily for two weeks.

  2. Apply Benzac AC gel (Benzoyl peroxide 2.5 percent) on your acne.

  3. After two weeks, begin using Cerave salicylic body wash (Niacinamide, hydrating Hyaluronic acid, and Ceramides).

  4. Avoid poking your acne to prevent scarring.

  5. For the peeling, apply a quality moisturizer like Cetaphil (water, cetyl alcohol, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, stearyl alcohol, methylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben) for now.

  6. Use Selsun 2.5 percent (Selenium sulfide) for dandruff.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take the medication with their consent. The follow-up is to be done in two weeks with a report.

I hope this helps.

Please revert to assist you further.

Thank you.
