I have an oily face. How can I manage my acne effectively?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My face is full of acne and acne marks. Acne, in the beginning, is red and painful, and then it becomes white on top. In a later stage, it leaves an impact on the face. The problem got worse in the summer. I use Lactocalamine cream and Clean and Clear face wash. The skin type is oily. Please suggest how I can have an acne-free face?

Thanks.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A pimple is somewhat hormonal and due to oily skin.

  1. Do not use hair oil or sticky cream on the face.
  2. Avoid oily food, chocolate, and milk products.
  3. Avoid dust. Use sunscreen.
  4. Do not use any steroid creams.
  5. Continue treatment for at least one month
  6. Face wash or soap is not a treatment and is not of much use.
  7. Do not touch acne and avoid pressing it.

For treatment, I suggest you use Clindamycin gel. This is more preventive and curative, so I tell patients to use it all over their face in the morning and use Adapalene gel over acne at night. Also, take a tablet of Doxycycline 100 mg once a day. Post-acne scars are box scar types, icepick (pinpoint scars), and rolling scars. Pinpoint scars are difficult to treat, while box scars are easy.

  1. No creams or tablets can help you out with scars.
  2. The best technique is the CO2 fractional laser. It takes five to six sessions, but the results are better than any other procedure.
  3. Dermaroller is also another method, but less effective than the above.
  4. Filler has a hiding effect. It fills the pits and gives the impression of fullness. It is not permanent.
  5. Chemical peels, if scars are not very prominent, then peels also could be effective.

These are techniques you can go through. All procedures take four to six sessions and five to six months for better results.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
