What could cause acne flare-ups despite using Tretinoin?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been using Tretinoin for about two months now to address my moderate acne and numerous closed comedones across my face. While I have noticed a reduction in comedones, I am still experiencing inflamed pimples, some of which develop into papules and cysts. Is it typical to continue experiencing purging after nine weeks of using Tretinoin? Additionally, I consistently struggle with acne before my period. Also, all tests for sex hormones, thyroid hormones, and vitamins yielded normal results. Despite trying various treatments over the past five years, I have not found anything effective. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Sensitive skin may experience purging while using retinoids.
To help manage your acne, I suggest the following:
-
Reduce stress, as it can contribute to breakouts.
-
Stay active with regular exercise.
-
Avoid oily and greasy cosmetic products, and be cautious with makeup.
-
Stay away from junk, oily, spicy, and dairy foods.
-
Maintain a healthy diet rich in green leafy vegetables and fruits.
-
Refrain from scratching or rubbing the lesions to prevent secondary bacterial infections and permanent scars.
Please attach a clinical image to assess the grade of your acne. Treatment depends on the type of lesions.
I hope this helps.
Please revert to assist you further.
Thank you.
