Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 18 years old female, and my skin condition suddenly worsened seven years ago. There were red bumps on my skin that grew with time. My face became red and itchy. My skin would soften in humid weather, but in rainy or dropped temperatures, grainy particles would get attached to those areas. I consulted a dermatologist, and they gave me a pill and Retin A 0.025% (Tretinoin) for two months. After one month, my skin cleared and became very smooth, and I continued my treatment, but my skin used to peel a lot. After treatment, I noticed my forehead was raised and swollen above the eyebrows. I do not know whether my skin problem is the cause of my forehead swelling. I gently scrub my face with my fingers twice weekly, and grey skin cells would come off. It left my skin shiny and smooth, and I used mild moisturizer for winter. But after two months, when the medication was over, nothing improved my skin. I noticed that my forehead has become extremely dry and flaky in summer. I would scrub away the dead cells once a week, but my skin became dry the next day. It has not been better, but now only the dryness has decreased, and red and flesh-colored bumps have appeared on my forehead. It is not going away and making my forehead look a bit greasy. Can you suggest remedies for smooth and spotless skin? I am using baby soap and oil-free moisturizer for combination skin. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

It seems you have acne vulgaris. Acne vulgaris is a common skin problem in adolescents and adults. Pilo-sebaceous follicles or oil glands can cause this condition and involve areas where oil glands are dense, like the face, chest, back, and upper arms are common sites of involvement. Your case may be grade 1 to 2 acne and cannot be confirmed. I suggest the following:

  1. Use Faceclin gel (Clindamycin Topical 1% and Nicotinamide 4%) during day time over pimples and Microbenz 3.5% gel (Benzoyl peroxide) at night hour over the whole face for around two to three months. You can use face wash twice daily to clean your face.

  2. Follow specific dietary restrictions like avoiding oily spicy food, junk food, milk products, and nonvegetarian foods.

  3. Drink lots of water as it hydrates your skin.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
