Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My father is 67 years old (weight 121 pounds and height 5 feet and 6 inches). He has moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. I have recently received his reports but, medical treatment has not started yet. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your father has carcinoma of the stomach (moderately differentiated). For staging, we need a CT (computed tomography) chest, abdomen, and pelvis. If the disease is limited to the stomach and lymph nodes then surgery followed by chemotherapy is the best option. But if it is metastatic then it would have spread to other organs the options are palliative care only. So, please upload his CT reports for review.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

I have attached his CT scan report. Our concern is, can he beat this dreaded cancer? He is already aged. What is the survival expectancy? How long will the treatment last and what will be the total cost approximately?

Looking forward to your kind advice.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Metastatic disease means spread in the abdomen as well as in the liver. So he needs some type of palliative treatment. I will prefer chemotherapy for three cycles followed by surgery.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

1. How long will the treatment last and what will be the total cost approximately?

2. What is the survival expectancy for his case?

3. If the survival rate is low or there is no chance of survival, we have to find an alternate way to fulfill his wishes and arrange a happy and memorable moment with him.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is a disseminated disease that is incurable and treatment is only palliative that means with chemo some relief will be there but will not cure the disease. Survival also depends on the response to chemotherapy. But the majority of patients die within two to three years. No one can give an exact lifespan except the creator. So in short survival depends on multiple factors.

Thank you.
