Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My family has a history of Alzheimer's disease. I am a 57-year-old male, and recently, I have been experiencing memory issues and cognitive decline that are seriously affecting my daily life. I have heard about a new drug called Lecanemab, and I am desperate to know if it could be a potential option for me. I am not sure about the current status and whether it is approved. I am so scared about the possibility of facing Alzheimer's, and if there is any chance that Lecanemab could help me. Can you please tell me if Lecanemab is something I should consider? How can I find a way to manage my symptoms? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.

I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing such issues. Yes, Lecaneman is an approved medication for the early stage of Alzheimer's disease. First of all, it should be clear that if what you are experiencing is the early stage of Alzheimer's or not. To confirm such an issue, especially regarding your family history, you need to be tested by a neurologist using cognitive tests. Moreover, a complete laboratory blood test, a brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and an EEG (electroencephalogram) are needed. At the last stage, a special imaging called PET (positron emission tomography) scan is needed to screen the distribution and amount of amyloid deposits in your brain.

I hope that the result will not be in favor of Alzheimer's disease. But, if they support the diagnosis, you would be a suitable candidate for Lecanemab.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
