Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been dealing with mucus discharge from my anus. I regularly shower and exercise but refuse to go to social gatherings due to the embarrassment of this condition. I eat a very healthy diet to combat this issue. I start my day with a smoothie that consists of kale, spinach, avocado, orange, porridge, active, kefir milk, seeds, nuts, and a banana. Then I fast until dinner which consists of a portion of potato or rice, a variety of vegetables (pepper, tomato, brussels, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage), and a source of meat (fish, chicken, beef) then I fast until breakfast. Occasionally I eat a small lunch consisting of sandwiches or a cooked pie. I do not smoke or drink and stay away from any addictions. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The intestinal mucosa secretes mucus to help the stools move easily. This mucus flow may frequently be caused by intestinal inflammation. It can indicate an infection if it comes with an abdominal colic. You should not be concerned if there is no abdominal colic and only a small amount of mucus discharge (excessive straining can result in clear mucus discharge, whether it occurs during constipation or not). I would suggest you get a colonoscopy examination done which is required to rule out any infections or malignancies if there are abdominal colic or abnormal bowel habits (constipation or diarrhea). I would also suggest you consume a diet high in fiber and drink lots of water (at least 1.5 to 1.8 gallons each day).

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Regards.
