Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I underwent an anomaly scan today, and the doctors found that the baby’s left lateral ventricle measured 8.6 mm and mildly dilated. The doctor has asked me to go for a second opinion and undergo a scan again. Is this a big problem? I am worried. Please help.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read the query, and I can understand your concern.
How are you doing? Another scan, possibly a 3D (dimensional) scan, would be beneficial to confirm the diagnosis. Lateral ventricles of up to 10 mm are okay as it is the upper limit. It only signifies that as the ventricle size increases, the brain tissue gets compressed, and at a dilation of 10 mm, the brain damage is irreversible or significant. All you will need is to have repeated scans at frequent intervals. Pregnancy must be terminated as soon as the doctor determines that the size has reached its maximum. I hope there are no additional defects, tumors, or cysts in the brain. Have another scan, preferably in 3D, from a separate facility, and then you will need to follow up.
I hope this will help you. Do write back for more queries.
Thank you.
