Can tapering the anti-anxiety drug dosage cause any side effects?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been suffering from anxiety for two months, and I have completely recovered this time. I am taking Paroxetine XR 25 and Clonafit beta at night. How to taper this dosage. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

You are on Paroxetine CR 25 mg (Paroxetine) and Clonafit beta (Clonazepam and Escitalopram oxalate), and your anxiety is under control. You can start with Paroxetine CR 12.5 mg in the evening for the next four weeks and then reduce to 10 mg plain in the evening for two weeks, followed by complete stoppage. Continue Clonafit beta for the next two weeks. This will prevent withdrawal symptoms. Dose reduction in this manner will help in smooth withdrawal.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Any other suggestions for food or other activity?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It will be helpful to take foods rich in high protein and complex carbs and low in fats. This will help to improve serotonin concentration in the brain, and you will see better in terms of anxiety. Also, take dietary supplements like vitamin B12 and omega fatty acids. Curd and animal products like eggs, meat, and milk are rich sources of vitamin B12, and this will reduce anxiety.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.
