Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
For the last year, I have been taking antidepressants like Fluxit 0.5 mg, Citapad 20 mg, and Mezpad 20 mg for somatization disorder, but from then after taking these medicines, my sexual desire decreased. Could my low libido be a side effect of antidepressants? I do not feel like masturbation, and I want to know if the side effects stop after I stop taking these medicines. Is this reversible, and in how many days? Can you suggest some good and safe medicine to increase libido? Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
You have a somatization disorder (occurs when a person feels extreme, exaggerated anxiety about physical symptoms). You are on medication that helps you to deal with your problem. Your libido (low sexual drive) can be low due to your illness and also can be low due to medication like Flupenthixol and Escitalopram. However, it is a temporary side effect of the medication, and you will be fine within four weeks. I suggest following the below lifestyle to increase your libido.
You should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes like at least going for a walk. If possible join the gym or swim, it will boost testosterone.
You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily, just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing, do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let it be.
You should eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.
You must drink enough water.
You should spend quality time with friends and family daily.
You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
You should get enough seven to eight hours of sleep daily.
You must avoid tobacco alcohol or any substance abuse.
Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
