Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

It sounds like you are dealing with a few different issues related to your hormone levels. Let us break it down:

1. High DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) Sulfate: DHEA sulfate is a hormone produced by your adrenal glands.

2. Low Testosterone: Testosterone is crucial for libido, energy, and overall well-being. Low levels can lead to symptoms like low libido, fatigue, and depression.

3. Low Libido: This can be influenced by both high DHEA sulfate and low testosterone. Other factors like stress, anxiety, and depression can also play a significant role.

Given your symptoms and hormone levels, it might be helpful to discuss potential treatments with a healthcare provider. Some options might include lifestyle changes, medication or supplements, and therapy.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

What is the cause of high levels of DHEA-S and how to lower it? I am currently on an SSRI antidepressant that affects those levels that much. Also, does testosterone cause anxiety and depression?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

High levels of DHEA-S (dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate) can result from adrenal gland disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or chronic stress. Low levels may be due to adrenal insufficiency, aging, or hypopituitarism.

SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) can affect DHEA-S levels, potentially increasing them and enhancing antidepressant effects.

Testosterone also plays a role in mental health. Low testosterone is often linked to depression and anxiety, while high levels can cause irritability and mood swings. Balanced testosterone levels are essential for mental well-being.

If you are concerned about your hormone levels and their impact on your mental health, it is best to consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice and treatment options.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
