What could be the reason for a feeling of nerves being on fire?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a mental health issue. Sometimes, I feel too much like my nerves are on fire, and I can feel them. I can not pinpoint when it happens, but I just experienced it a while ago. This even causes my hands to shake. Then, I also talked to myself and laughed. In the middle of talking to myself or laughing, my mind can go blank for a minute. This is scaring me. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.com.

You now have exclusive access to expert medical opinion.

Based on your description, you may be experiencing symptoms of anxiety or panic attacks. These can cause physical symptoms such as feelings of intense nervousness, shaking, and blank spells. It is understandable to feel concerned about these symptoms, but they are not necessarily a cause for alarm. However, it is still important to seek the help of a mental health professional to better understand and manage your symptoms. They can provide you with strategies to manage anxiety and panic attacks, such as relaxation techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and medication if necessary.

In the meantime, here are some self-care tips that may help:

1. Practice relaxation techniques: Try deep breathing exercises, meditation, or progressive muscle relaxation to help calm your mind and body.

2. Exercise regularly: Regular exercise can help reduce stress and anxiety levels.

3. Get enough sleep: Make sure you are getting enough sleep each night to help your body and mind rest and recharge.

4. Limit caffeine and alcohol: These substances can contribute to feelings of anxiety and nervousness, so try to limit your intake.

5. Connect with others: Talking to a trusted friend or family member about your symptoms can help you feel supported and less alone.

Remember that seeking professional help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Do not hesitate to reach out to a mental health professional for guidance and support.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of more queries.

Thank you.
