Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have eosinophilic asthma and nasal polyps, and my doctor recommended Tezspire. I know biologics help with airway inflammation, but will it also improve my chronic sinus congestion? I also get frequent upper respiratory infections—does Tezspire weaken the immune system? How long should I try it before considering another treatment if it doesn't work? Please help.
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Tezspire (Tezepelumab-ekk) is primarily designed for severe asthma (airway inflammation, leading to breathing difficulty, coughing, and wheezing) but may help reduce airway inflammation, which could improve sinus symptoms. It may decrease nasal polyp growth, reduce sinus inflammation and mucus buildup, and improve postnasal drip and congestion. However, Tezspire is not specifically approved for nasal polyps, so its effectiveness in treating chronic sinus congestion may vary.
Tezspire and a weakened immune system?
Unlike steroids or some biologics, Tezspire does not directly suppress the immune system. However, any biologic therapy can slightly alter immune responses, so it is important to monitor for infections. While Tezspire does not typically increase the risk of frequent upper respiratory infections, individual reactions may vary.
How long should you stay on Tezspire before considering a change?
A trial period of at least four to six months is recommended. Many patients notice improvement within three to four months, but full effects may take 6 months or longer. If asthma control and nasal symptoms do not show significant improvement after six months, discuss switching to another biologic with your doctor. Alternatives include Dupixent (Dupilumab) (for nasal polyps and asthma) or Xolair (Omalizumab) (for allergic asthma), depending on your specific condition. Regular follow-ups will help assess effectiveness.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
