Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Should a person with a regular heart rate be taking Amiodarone if they have atrial fibrillation without ventricular response?
Please help.
Hello,
I appreciate that you have chosen icliniq.com for your medical needs.
I am here to give you the best care possible.
I understand your concern.
Atrial fibrillation patients almost always have an irregular ventricular response. In the case of a complete AV (atrioventricular) block, the heart rate can be regular. In that case, Amiodarone should not be taken. Amiodarone is for rhythm control and also for rate control. There are better options for rate control than Amiodarone. Rhythm control is indicated only in a few cases.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
Check this EKG (electrocardiogram) for atrial fibrillation; should I be on an anticoagulant?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
This rhythm strip shows a regular rhythm with no apparent P waves. Even T waves are not visualized. The rate is about 90 per minute. Usually, escape rhythms have a lower heart rate and sometimes broad QRS complexes. This is neither slow nor broad. There are no P waves, but also no T waves. Moreover, it is a single-lead ECG recorded with a non-clinical device. So, the reliability of this is very low. I would recommend having a 12-lead ECG (electrocardiogram) done to clearly see what the issue is without making assumptions and presumptions based on this ECG strip.
You can always come back and reach me at icliniq.com.
Thank you for consulting me.
