How can a 19-year-old deal with overthinking and refrain from being oversensitive?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old overthinker. I am very sensitive. I fear that anyone who walks into my life will just leave me easily though I have not witnessed it. This constant fear makes me avoid conversations when I am about to get closer to anyone. I even think that my parents do not prioritize me. I get hurt easily and hurt others too. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I am here to help with your health queries.

I can understand your problem. You have emotional attachment issues. You need to learn one thing that is, nothing is permanent in life. People will come and go. You need to do what you want to do. Do not depend on a person. Do not think that if that person leaves you in the future, you will be alone. Life is meant to enjoy and live in the present. Do not be afraid of anyone. If you like someone and if that person wants to talk with you, then they will stay in contact with you. If not, move on. Try to find another person. You cannot force someone to like you and stay with you. Stop overthinking. Even your parents will leave you in the future, so accept the reality.

I hope this helps.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Thank you.
